Visiting my sister last year I picked up a baumkuchen at Kadewe that I liked but didn't love. This year she sent me one from Konditorei Buchwald and it was one of the most delicious cakes I have had all year. I picked at it a bit and brought it to my mom's house to share. I didn't quite store it high enough, however, and soon every last bit of it was gone. The dog had gotten to it and clearly loved it as much as I did.

I always bring this cake as a present for friends in the States. No one has ever seen it before and she's right--this is the best place to buy it. Delicious!

I especially appreciate that you can read the ingredients in the cakes: eggs, butter, sugar, flour, marzipan, almonds, apricot jam... Simple kitchen logic always makes a great tasting cake.
